Today, Australian cotton growers produce more cotton on less land, with more efficient water use and with less impact on the environment than ever before. Mini-Tankers Supports Victorian Bushfire Recovery

Earlier this year, catastrophic bushfires tore through parts of central and north-east Victoria, burning more than 300,000 hectares of land, destroying hundreds of homes and structures, and prompting emergency warnings as communities faced weeks of recovery.

In the weeks that followed, the Mini-Tankers team attended the Highlands Community Centre on Ghin Ghin Road to support residents impacted by the fires. Fuel was delivered to power local generators and support Country Fire Authority operations during the early recovery phase, ensuring critical equipment and essential services could keep running when they were needed most.

The scale of the damage was significant, with homes, infrastructure and an estimated 15,000 - 16,000 livestock lost. Despite this, the strength and resilience of the local community stood out. The community hall quickly became a central hub, where locals, farmers and emergency services worked side by side. Having reliable access to fuel meant the recovery effort could continue without interruption.

Chris Paterson and Greg Miskin attended the site, towing specialised refuelling equipment to where it was needed most. As they shared afterwards: "It wasn't about grand gestures — just doing what we could to make things a bit easier. Being able to provide fuel meant people could keep moving and keep helping each other. We've got a lot of respect for the resilience and determination we saw in Highlands and the surrounding Yea district."

The November 2025 Sydney International Boat Show attracted marine enthusiasts eager to engage with like-minded people who have a passion for the sea and boats.

Refuelling Solutions’ Cliff Kemmett, representing Future Fuels, together with Lisa Blair the world-famous sailor, and record holder being the fastest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around Antarctica, attended the event supporting the use of Biodiesel in her yacht, Climate Action Now.

Local Biodiesel Showcased at Hunter Open Day

Rutherford, NSW – Biodiesel Industries Australia (BIA) recently hosted an open day at its Rutherford refinery to highlight the role of locally manufactured biodiesel in decarbonising Australia’s hardest-to-abate sectors.

The on-site forum brought together representatives from Local Government, the Port of Newcastle, NSW DPI Regional Economic Development for the Hunter/Central Coast, and the Hunter Joint Organisation, representing twelve regional Councils.

A Refuelling Solutions Mini-Tanker was also on display, demonstrating how Australian businesses are partnering to deliver lower-carbon fuel options directly to end users in diesel-intensive industries such as transport, mining, rail, marine, and construction.

“Locally produced biodiesel provides a practical, scalable pathway to meet decarbonisation targets while strengthening regional economies,” a BIA spokesperson said. “By reducing reliance on imported fuels and using home-grown feedstocks, we create opportunities for Australian agriculture to participate in an emerging clean energy industry.”

The event underscored the growing recognition that advanced biofuels like biodiesel can play a central role in achieving Australia’s emission reduction goals—delivering immediate benefits today while positioning regional communities at the heart of the energy transition.

This year Refuelling Solutions was one of the sponsors of the inaugural Tractor Games held at AgQuip — the nation's largest agricultural field days event, showcasing over 3,000 companies and attracting in excess of 90,000 visitors.

Gunnedah was a muddy, competitive fun time at the inaugural Tractor Games, for a variety of reasons. With a competitive spirit in full swing and machinery provided by sponsors Kia Tasman, Case IH, New Holland and John Deere and Refuelling Solutions providing drums and IBCs, the best results were the enjoyment by the crowds. Tractors, hay bales, and drums were the perfect partners to showcase the accuracy and skills of those given the challenge. Next year will be another field day not to be missed and Refuelling Solutions looks ahead to again be part of this wonderful event.

Bringing the Batmobile to the B to B Bash

The Batmobile was at Doonside Public School, in Sydney, early on Tuesday, the 12th of August, to support Variety the Children’s Charity on the final day of the 2025 B to B Bash.

Over $5,000 worth of equipment was given to Doonside Public School whose students and teachers featured on television, thanks to the coverage by Channel 7’s Sunrise presenter Katie Brown.

Volunteering is a family commitment in our Victorian Team

Victoria has seen a number of destructive fires over the years, and to help combat these, is an extensive and passionate group of volunteers offering their services to The Country Fire Authority (CFA).

This volunteer fire service is responsible for fire suppression, rescues, and response to other accidents and hazards across most of the state of Victoria.

Within the family of RFS we have two volunteers who willingly give up their time to work with CFA whenever they are required.

Profiling the father and son duo of Paul Brody and his son Sam Brody both are Operators in our Victorian Team. Paul is currently an Operator at Casterton and Sam is an Operator at Hamilton.

Paul, since retired from the CFA, had over 20 years of service, 12 years as the CFA Muntham Captain, and was also the Deputy Group Officer, Strike Team Leader, and Sector Commander, all very commendable positions that demonstrated Leadership, skill, and bravery.

Given his father’s commitment, at 15, Sam joined the CFA and is proud to hold a 15 year Service Medal and a National Service Medal. His career started at Muntham (3 years) , then to Coleraine (7 years), then onto Yulecart (5 years) and now our Depot in Hamilton is lucky and fortunate to have Sam in their team. As a 2nd Lieutenant and Training Officer with the Hamilton CFA, Sam’s skills and dedication, reflect an ongoing service to the CFA continuing his dad’s service.

We take this opportunity to thank them both for the many years of service and dedication to the CFA and to their respective communities.

Maxi-Tankers continues to happily support the Keith & Tintinara District Show in SA, with the “Keith Revved Up” weekend which was held on Saturday 25th March 2025.

What started as a fun day ‘in the dirt’ a few years ago, by a few locals, has grown into a wonderful weekend full of activities for country families to enjoy. Fireworks, aerobatic displays, jetboat racing, professional tractor pull, yard dogs, stock horse challenge, motorcross, vintage tractors and live music all make for a fantastic day.

Due to the ‘Revved Up’ enthusiasts this has become an annual event, so if you’re in the region next March, what about spending the day in the dirt at Keith.

It’s a Wrap! Refuelling Solutions Powers the 2025 Avalon Airshow

The Refuelling Solutions combined teams of Mini-Tankers and Maxi-Tankers were thrilled to be a part of the bi-annual Avalon Airshow, held over six exhilarating days from 25-30 March 2025.

From the set up phase, to the last day of the show, the Refuelling Solutions (RFS) Mini-Tanker team played a vital role providing essential fuel support during the construction, setup and running of this iconic event. Many people worked tirelessly to prepare the grounds and bring the airshow to life. With Maxi and Mini-Tankers on hand to ensure a seamless supply of fuel for Aggreko generators, for the exhibition stands, the Australian Defence Force camp, and other vital equipment to run the show, it was satisfying to know our role to supply vital diesel fuel across multiple pieces of equipment, spread over the sprawling airshow ground, ran smoothly and without any issues.

"Avalon 2025 was all about engagement between industry, defence, the aviation and aerospace community and the general public,” said Justin Giddings, CEO of Avalon Australian International Airshow organiser AMDA Foundation.

Feedback from our exhibitors and Air Force is that once again the airshow achieved this with flying colours, including the largest industry presence we have ever had at the event. Avalon 2025 featured more than 350 aircraft in the air and on the ground, including 45 aerial display aircraft and 64 exhibited by aviation manufacturers.

Aggreko’s Sam Nicholas, Project Manager, said “Our drivers were the unsung heroes of the event with each fuel stop contributing to the smooth running of an event enjoyed by Government officials, Australian Defence Force and thousands of visitors. Australia’s First Renewable Diesel Trial in Commercial Fishing: A Game-Changer for Sustainability

The Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development’s launch of Australia’s first trial of HVO100 (Renewable Diesel) in commercial fishing trawlers took place in the pristine waters of Yamba in Northern NSW and the Hawkesbury River, Sydney basin, during October and November 2024 and the results have been very promising.

This trial is about the future-proofing of an industry that relies on healthy marine ecosystems. Traditional diesel fuels contribute to carbon emissions and air pollution, which can impact both fisheries and coastal communities.

HVO100, a 100% renewable, drop-in diesel replacement, cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 95% significantly reducing particulate matter and NOx emissions (Nitrous Oxide) which is a mixture of Nitric Oxide (NO) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) an acidic and highly corrosive gas that can affect our health and environment.

Improving air and water quality in sensitive marine environments by using HVO100 is an essential pathway in the transition to cleaner waters and the health of marine life.

This trial marks an important first step for meaningful change where industry leaders, policymakers, and fuel suppliers must work together to scale renewable diesel adoption. The future of commercial fishing depends on low-carbon solutions that support both economic and environmental resilience.

Australia has the opportunity to lead the way in cleaner, more sustainable fishing practices. The results of this trial could set the standard for a national shift towards net-zero emissions in commercial marine industries.

The question isn’t if we transition—it’s how fast.

Ensuring Critical Fuel Supply for Emergency Services, Hospitals, and Communities in Crisis

The Refuelling Solutions’ Mini-Tanker and Maxi-Tanker teams are highly trained and ready to respond when mother nature challenges us. As Cyclone Alfred bore down on Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales from Thursday, March 6, through to Monday, March 10, the team stood prepared to face the challenges ahead. Ongoing training for events like Cyclone Alfred includes everyone from Management, Administration, and Schedulers to Operators and Drivers. When the cyclone hit, knowledge and training took over and on Friday, those who could reach the Underwood depot arrived, ready to assist. After a detailed briefing, every team member understood their role in supporting both colleagues and the community.

As the wind howled and fuel terminals began shutting down, Maxi-Tankers ensured that Mini-Tanker depots at Underwood, Kunda Park, Narangba and Ballina were fully stocked in anticipation of terminal closures, which did eventuate.

Supporting emergency services operations, aged care centres, and hospitals became top priorities, ensuring generators remained operational, and fire trucks and other emergency vehicles stayed on the road. With over 275,000 homes without power and several staff members housebound, those who could reach the Underwood Depot efficiently managed an influx of urgent fuel delivery requests, scheduling operators and organising the delivery of fuel where it was needed most.

After working tirelessly through Friday night, and due to a small a break in the weather, our team was on-site refuelling at the Gold Coast Hospital by 5.00 am on Saturday. Dedication and training ensured there was enough personnel to respond to the requests while maintaining compliant with fatigue regulations. This was a true demonstration of teamwork and preparedness.

Remarkably, despite operating in treacherous situations, our tankers did not record a single incident, accident, or bogging while operating in very challenging conditions. Coupled with both weather and the overwhelming demands on our people and resources, this was an excellent achievement.

When the community needed us most, the entire QLD team stepped up with resilience, professionalism, and teamwork that upheld our commitment to delivering leading service to our customers.

RFS Mini-Tankers Drive Groundbreaking Biodiesel Solution on Major Project

Congratulations to our NSW team, with a special shout out to BDE, Steve Hughes, who persistently followed up with CPB Contractors to position the supply of an Australian Biodiesel blend B5 or B20 for all plant and equipment on the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport Surface and Civil Alignment Works Project.

Daniel Fernandes, Sustainability Manager at CPB said that this is first of its kind for a construction project in Australia which has already reduced project carbon emissions by 200 tCO2e, which is equivalent to taking 70 cars off the road annually. This creates a benchmark for sustainable construction in Sydney Metro in particular the SCAW Project.

Mini-Tankers are refuelling all equipment daily on this mammoth project, and with the relationships built, and the trust in RFS to safely deliver a continuous supply of an Australian Biodiesel blend, this is a ground breaking solution for everyone. RFS delivers HVO for Sail GP Sydney Harbour

Sail GP is a global event not to be missed if you love sailing at Formula 1 speed. Last weekend on Sydney Harbour 12 super yachts challenged each other in fierce rivalry for the winning podium, with the Australian Team finishing 3rd.

Sail GP’s “Better Planet” message was met with RFS supplying 11,203 Litres of HVO100 to run ground support generators brought in to power each team’s shore headquarters.

Our Smithfield depot is always a hub of activity with an excess of 35 tankers and Driver/Operators meeting the high demands of our daily refuelling services through the western corridor and surrounds. RFS Powers Willoway Farms' Agricultural Operations

For over nine years Willoway Farming has been a loyal customer of Maxi-Tankers in South Australia. Bob Morton, BDE together with Johnny O’Loughlin, MXT Operator, have created a positive, enduring business relationship where Willoway Farms continues to produce their massive crops, raise livestock, produce the highest standard of wool globally, and for Refuelling Solutions to supply the bulk fuel necessary for this enormous enterprise’s agricultural machinery.

Willoway Farms is an Australian family farming group owned by Ben Brinkworth, who is possibly the largest landowner in SA, consisting of approximately 20-30 farms in the SE of SA. Additional large properties are in NSW, notably Uardry Station which is a very large sheep station with an enduring historical story. For those who might remember the 1 shilling coin … the engraved image of the sheep on the reverse of the coin was from Uardry Station.

Ben Brinkworth and Johnny go back a long way. Both men are born of the land that creates tough men with kind hearts. When our Maxi-Tanker is seen driving across the various locations to bulk fill a tank everyone at Willoway can get on with farming knowing Johhny is taking care of business. RFS is proud to be associated with this great Australian agricultural and livestock group, and our commitment to provide fuel, sometimes under the most difficult conditions, will always be a top priority for the team at RFS.

Our team consists of Johnny O’Loughlin, operating from the Keith depot, which started almost 10 years ago when RFS took small steps into this area. Also loading from the depot is Craig Miller, delivering to the Bordertown area into Victoria, fuelling up again on his return trip from the tank at Kaniva which Operator, Marco De Angelis from our Largs depot, fills daily in ‘his’ MXT B-Double, and Operator Anthony Wood has a daily run from Murray Bridge, delivering throughout the region …. Our small team love the work they do and more importantly, our customers are happy in these farming communities, as the relationships have grown over time, developing into friendships.

Willoway Farming is part of the broader ‘Willoway Group”, an Australian family owned and operated aggregation of agricultural interests that span more than 943,000 hectares (2,330,203 acres) through the South-East of South Australia, the Pastoral regions of northern South Australia and far-western New South Wales, plus the Riverina region in southern New South Wales. Their activities include irrigated cropping, irrigated and dryland lucerne seed production, livestock and wool.

On an early November morning, the dedicated RFS team from Underwood Depot, Queensland, led by Colin Peterson (BDE) and Maxi-Tanker Operators Laris Henderson and Aiden Meredith, undertook the refuelling of the 98-foot/30-meter superyacht Belle at the Coomera Boat Works. The yacht received 15,000 litres of HVO100 renewable diesel, marking another milestone in sustainable marine innovation.

Eighteen months ago , Belle's owners, Michelle and Mark Rawson, embarked on a mission to preserve our waterways and protect marine life by transitioning to renewable fuels. As passionate advocates for sustainability, they turned to Refuelling Solutions’ Future Fuels and adopted Neste MY Renewable Diesel (HVO100). The Belle became the first vessel on Sydney Harbour to operate on this advanced renewable diesel, setting an inspiring example for the marine world.

Groundbreaking renewable diesel demonstration launched in Spencer and Yamba

Two ocean trawlers in the Northern Rivers and a river trawler on the Hawkesbury River have become the first in Australia to trial a low carbon renewable fuel solution as part of a NSW Government research project on sustainable energy usage in the commercial fishing sector.

The $920,000 Beyond Fossil Diesel Program is a collaboration between the NSW Government and the Decarbonisation Innovation Hub initiative which supports collaboration between researchers and industry to increase the uptake of new technologies in decarbonising NSW.

Renewable diesel is used as a drop in replacement and offers industry a 70% - 90% reduction in their normal fuel related emissions and as part of the project, more than 6,000 litres of renewable diesel will be blended with fossil diesel at 30% of the mix.

Research Officer Michael Cashen said after 18 months of research, the Beyond Fossil Diesel Program has hosted a series of renewable fuel demonstrations in both the Clarence and Hawkesbury regions.

“The aim of the Beyond Fossil Diesel at Sea project is to provide practical examples that will inspire confidence and drive adoption of practical decarbonisation solutions within the marine sector,” Mr Cashen said.

“We appreciate Yamba commercial fisher Steve Everson and Paul Aquilina from Spencer for participating in this landmark demonstration.

“Their involvement will show other fishermen what is possible with these evolving low-carbon liquid fuels and how they work in their vessels.”

Mr Cashen continued by saying renewable diesel can be made from biological feedstocks including tallow, oilseed crops and sugar cane and has been used extensively in both the US and Europe in hard to abate sectors that have limited practical options to decarbonise.

“Currently, the price of renewable diesel is too high for widespread adoption, however, with the development of an Australian Low Carbon Liquid Fuel industry, we expect prices to decrease over time, making it easier for the industry to adopt renewable diesel as stakeholders become more familiar with the product,” Mr Cashen said.

“Raising awareness of low carbon liquid fuels as a replacement for fossil fuels was initially done in the agriculture sector, as part of the Beyond Fossil Diesel project.

“With potential demand for low carbon liquid fuels growing worldwide, NSW has a significant opportunity to help build feedstock supply and potentially production capacity that can create regional employment and reduce reliance on imported fuel.

Low Carbon Liquid Fuels such as renewable diesel is a practical way for industry to reduce carbon emissions without having to make changes to existing machinery or supply chains.

“By using renewable diesel, we can directly cut emissions and contribute to NSW target to net zero emissions by 2050.”

NSW Northern Rivers commercial fisherman Steve Everson said:

New Kenworth Road Trains Arrive At Their SA Depots

Our two new K220 prime movers featuring the latest tech have been dropped off at our SA Depots this week.

With the latest Endurant Eaton/Cummins drivetrain and a full canbus electrical system, the trucks feature technology never seen in the Australian market and are built to tackle any challenge.

The K220s delivered to SA have created a lot of excitement at our Largs North and Berri depots, with Operators Daniel Niesen and Kym Zimmermann taking ownership as soon as these monster trucks arrived at their respective depots.

David Martin, State Operations Manager said the delivery of these trucks has created a lot of energy in SA, and demonstrates the commitment by RFS to build the most efficient and technically advanced trucks that our Operator/Drivers are proud of.

The Largs configuration has a capacity estimated at approximately 74,000 litres Dist and can also service the depots at Keith and Ardrossan, and under the right circumstances, Murray Bridge plus bridging loads to Berri.

Over in Berri the AB triple is in the hands of Operator, Kym Zimmermann who has been heard to say that he hasn’t been this happy since his first child was born. With a capacity of around 88,000 litres Dist, even more in certain circumstances, this truck is a very impressive ‘bit of kit’ and is already getting lots of looks and feedback.

The RFS fleet is continuously upgrading and expanding and Rob Tims, National Fleet and Compliance Manager, and his team, can be very happy that these truck builds, and the brands they represent, are the best, safest and the most comfortable trucks on the road.

Australian Agave's Spirit Farm is located 20° South of the equator between Bowen and Airlie Beach in Queensland and is on the doorstep of one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, The Great Barrier Reef. The farm location mirrors Mexico’s Jalisco, located 20° North, making the region ideal for growing agave to be distilled into an Australian spirit that will challenge the world’s best.

RFS’s commitment to a cleaner environment, with the supply of Australian B100, a clean burning renewable fuel, has been recognised by Australian Agave's unique business and their passion to make a difference. Strange buddies you might think, however with dedication and foresight these two companies go hand in hand. Both have the spirit to make a difference. In September 2023 the first load of B100 was successfully supplied to Australian Agave’s above ground tank and the success of this shipment is repeated again.

Months of preparations, working jointly with Bioenergy Australia, a Renewable Fuels Summit is to be held at The National Gallery, Canberra

An important shift in thinking will take place over an intense 2 day summit, to be held at The National Gallery, Canberra on 19-20 ^th March, to discuss, and foster, the renewable fuels sector.

Renewable Fuels Meets Federal Parliament is in support of the decarbonisation of Australia’s hard to abate sectors, with a focus on the creation of jobs and regional economic development. The various events spread throughout the week will see major developments where Ministers and Members of Parliament have the opportunity to meet directly with industry leaders in the renewable space, offering professional and focused discussions that will help guide our nation into future fuel security.

Whilst the more aspirational technologies of EV & Hydrogen continue to evolve and hopefully become commercially viable, renewable low carbon liquid fuels such a s biodiesel and renewable diesel are available today for immediate deployment; working with existing assets using existing refuelling infrastructure. WOMADelaide Festival To Run On B100 Biodiesel In 2024

WOMADelaide Continues their journey of sustainability with the help of RFS

Following successful trials at their festivals in in 2021 and 2022 WOMADelaide is rolling out the large-scale use of B100 biodiesel, provided by Refuelling Solutions.

The B100 will be used for approximately 75% of on-site power generation to continue the transition away from the use of fossil fuels. B100 is an alternative fuel that is made entirely from organic matter, such as food waste, with zero mineral diesel.

RFS is excited to contribute to the sustainability goal through providing the WOMADelaide Festival, held in the Botanic Park, Adelaide with fossil-free renewable fuel for this year’s event 8-11 March.

Steve Scobie, WOMADelaide’s Sustainability Officer, is passionate about providing a completely zero-waste-to-landfill event, and, as of 2023 has diverted 97.5% of all waste away from landfill.

The festival’s commitment to a biodegradable, recyclable, compostable products and packaging waste-free environment, is leading the way for festivals of the future.

WOMADelaide will be the first festival in the world to provide future generations of festival goers with a carbon offsets program everyone can be proud to participate in.

Murrays coaches increases its biodiesel fleet

Furthering their industry-leading transition to renewable fuels, Murrays Coaches' partnership has continued to go from strength to strength.

Murray Coaches lead the way in the coaches and buses sector. Now with the addition of five new bio-diesel fuelled coaches, they are continuing their commitment to clean energy using B100 supplied by Echo Tech and delivered direct to site by Refuelling Solutions.

Ralph Proves Age Is Just A Number In The VIC Motorsport Title

Coming out of retirement to rack up some podiums at 60 years old.

Congratulations to RFS Operator Ralph Pink, from our Barnawartha Depot, for smashing the competition at the Victorian Motor Cycle Titles, held at Broadford over the weekend of the 18th of November.

Ralph finished on the podium with two 3rd places in the Vic titles, one 3rd place in the over 35’s and another in the pre-90’s. Only to go and back this up with another 3 ^rd place in the Australian titles for dirt track, so at 60 years, Ralph’s competitive spirit is AWESOME and unstoppable.

His decision to come out of retirement after 30 years, “to give it another go” is proving to be the best news for many, and from his performances this year, he’s running hot! With approximately 12 bikes in each race, the younger riders are as competitive as ever, but it appears that Ralph’s youth hasn’t left, and he is ahead on all points as his competitors are in awe of his racing skills!

At another event, Ralph found himself on the podium with a 1st and a 3rd placing at the Griffith Motor Cycle Club Championship. The Griffith region is populated by farmers and transport companies and Ralph has become an enthusiastic flag bearer for RFS, so we might expect to see an increase in our customer base during the motor cycle riding season!

He also came third in the Australian Titles and his podium rankings are becoming legendary!

Ralph is riding for The Harley Club, the oldest dirt track club in Australia, this family friendly motor cycle club embraces all ages, and as Ralph said, is a wonderful club to belong to. He’s having such a good time he has no plans to retire a 2nd time. Best of luck for the rides ahead Ralph, a legend grows.

With the delivery of a Kenworth B Triple Road Train

Forward planning paved the way for the delivery of a new Kenworth B Triple Road Train destined for the RFS Largs depot in SA. With earlier predictions of a bumper harvest, plans were put in place for a B Triple build so we could provide capacity fuel requirements for our depots and our customers. The triple also services our tanks in Ardrossan, Berri, and several service stations, where permitted, which are on specific gazetted routes.

The 74,000-litre payload offers many advantages, with large drops and fewer trips. Operator/drivers say that it ‘tows beautifully and looks great on the road’. They are very proud of how RFS continues to build trucks of quality and size that handle so well. In-cab technologies meet all delivery and safety compliances, are comfortable, and as Kenworth’s are known as the ‘Kings of the Road’, they are proud to have the opportunity to experience the thrill of jumping in-cab at the start of their shift to head down the highway. It’s a truckie’s dream!

The Significant Role of Mini-Tankers in the Westlink M7 Project

In the ever-evolving landscape of infrastructure development, there are projects that stand out for their scale, complexity, and the lasting impact they have on a region. One such project is the Westlink M7 in Sydney, a monumental undertaking that was completed in 2006. In this blog, we take a stroll down memory lane, highlighting the crucial role Mini-Tankers, a division of Refuelling Solutions (RFS), played in the success of this project.

The Westlink M7 Project: A Brief Overview

Completed on the 10th of January, 2006, after two and a half years of relentless work, the Westlink M7 was a $1.604 Billion project that transformed the way traffic moved in western Sydney. The Abigroup Leighton JV took on the herculean task of linking the M7 with major arterial roads, creating 17 interchanges, building over 170 bridges, and improving numerous local roads. The result was a 40km tolled road that bypassed 48 sets of traffic lights and reduced traffic by approximately 60,000 vehicles per day, including 10,000 heavy vehicles.

Mini-Tankers: Fuelling Progress

In the midst of this colossal project, the need for a reliable onsite refuelling solution was paramount. This is where Mini-Tankers stepped in, providing a comprehensive refuelling service that kept the machinery moving. Our team supplied fuel to up to four on-site tanks used as temporary storage, ensuring that our tankers could refill at any time of the day. With three full-time Mini-Tankers operating 24/7, we managed to refuel approximately 850 vehicles and pieces of equipment across different sections of the project.

Innovation and Efficiency: The Touchstar Difference

One of the standout features of our service during the Westlink M7 project was the use of on-board computers. This innovative technology allowed us to capture each vehicle and equipment’s unique identification code at the time of filling, recording the amount of fuel used. This not only streamlined the refuelling process but also provided immediate cost analysis per piece of equipment, per site, resulting in an accurate fuel reconciliation for the JV, that could be accessed at any time despite the millions of litres supplied into so many pieces of equipment.

A Legacy of Support and Service

Now, seventeen years later, the Westlink M7 stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of all parties involved. The road continues to play a vital role in Sydney’s expansion to the Greater West, bearing the weight of increased traffic volumes. We are proud to have played a part in this iconic project, demonstrating our commitment to providing efficient and reliable refuelling solutions, no matter the scale of the task at hand.

B100 delivery to Murrays Coaches at Chinchilla

Another exciting day unfolded on Monday the 9 ^th of October for Murrays Coaches at Chinchilla in QLD when RFS’s Maxi-Tanker arrived on site for the delivery of approx 39,000 L of B100 biodiesel. The B100 was supplied by Eco Tech Biodiesel Pty Ltd and was pumped into a T68 tank commissioned by GO Industrial and Refuelling Solutions. The T68s iFUEL Tank integrates with the markets most popular tank gauge systems via a simple cable connection offering easy and effective web based stock reconciliation and allows LIVE viewing, via the iFUEL Cloud software package anywhere in the world 24/7.

This is the second tank installed by Murrays dedicated to Biofuel use, demonstrating the demand for biofuels, and Murray’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.

A spokesperson for Murray’s said, “For several years our focus has been on finding a renewable energy source, and with a successful partnering with Refuelling Solutions we are clearly advancing in this transport space.”

In a dynamic move toward bolstering safety standards, Refuelling Solutions (RFS) has partnered with Safety Champion, a renowned organisation headquartered in Victoria, to revamp its incident recording system. The collaboration aims to ensure real-time incident data collection, swift reporting, and widespread information sharing both within and outside the company.

Customers of the company expect nothing less than the highest safety standards when a Mini Tanker or a Maxi Tanker visits their site. Brent Herrick, National Sales and Business Systems Manager, shared insights into the implementation process: "Getting the product configured to suit our needs took around a month, and from there, progress to installing it across the business was swift. We are now able to dissect incident data formally every month to produce safety recommendations that are relevant to what we are learning from the field."

Brent also praised the team at Safety Champion's responsiveness, hinting at exciting future developments in the pipeline. “ Craig and the team have been great to work with and we are really looking forward to the ongoing development of their product”.

Maxi-Tankers at the 2023 Henty Machinery Field Days

2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the Henty Machinery Field Days, and our Maxi-Tankers team were again on site at the showground (Field Days) for the 6th year.

For 3 days, 19-21st September, Paul, Pat, Mark and David manned our site once again. The local team has a wealth of knowledge in the fuel industry and were happy to help with a wide range of refuelling questions from attendees far and wide. No question was too challenging with our regional spread covering Wagga Wagga, Tumut, Griffith, Hillston, Hay, Deniliquin, Albury, Shepparton, Myrtleford, Corryong and everywhere in between.

On request any one of our team will travel to your site to meet and talk through the solutions for refuelling. Sites can vary dramatically in both hectares in rural settings, and for the many businesses located in townships throughout this mapped area.

Farmers with large irrigation systems can rely on a Maxi-Tanker turning up, without a prompt, just because our Schedulers and Operators know their customer’s fuel usage patterns so well. The visual for a farmer when one of our Maxi’s is seen, or heard, rumbling down a dirt road is the best solution for a good day ahead. Above ground tanks are filled, irrigation systems and generators, as are pieces of Plant and Equipment which are all necessary to keep crops growing. We do the thinking for our customers while they get on with running their farm or business.

Our Maxi-Tanker Operators are down to earth, professional drivers, who care for the communities they live in, and the business relationships and family friendships that are formed are essential components to operating a successful business in the rural sector. Events like Henty Machinery Field days are great opportunities for our team to connect to the communities that they serve.

Exhibition of the Upton Tractor. One of the world’s rarest tractors

This year we had the opportunity to become a Sponsor for the Upton Tractor Exhibition which is being assembled by the HMFD committee to bring these rare tractors into the spotlight once again. Upton tractors, had 8 MT models and were the largest two wheel drive tractors in the world at the time. Carl Upton manufactured his tractors in Corowa up until 1981 so tractor enthusiasts and farmers will be able to view machinery of the past.

This exhibit will be a significant display for tractor and machinery enthusiasts and farmers in general, including historical tractors from Mudgee, Swan Hill, Ardlethan, Corowa and Albury. A photo opportunity for the public with the tractor owners, and Carl Upton, mid morning on Wednesday 20th September should be a wonderful opportunity to chat with the people who lived and worked through those times.

The first NSW Bioeconomy Summit on “Renewable Fuels Meets NSW Parliament’ was held on Monday 11th September and co-sponsored between Bioenergy Australia and Deloitte with RFS also delighted to have contributed.

The Summit was a huge success with over 150 attendees, hosting a range of informed speakers who shared insights into the domestic industry for Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Renewable Liquid Fuel and Renewable Gas.

The focus on Renewable Diesel has become a conversation that boardrooms in the fuel and transport industry across Australia are discussing. The need to identify the risks, and opportunities of investing in renewable fuels has become a priority if, as a nation, we are to catch up with the rest of the world in the transition from fossil fuel to a more sustainable future. Simon Roycroft, Future Fuels Manager, was invited to participate on two panels, representing RFS, and the other as Chair of the Cleaner Fuels Alliance .

The session on Renewable Diesel decarbonising Construction, Marine, Mining, Agriculture, Rail and Heavy Haulage was sponsored by Refuelling Solutions and the second and last session on The Great Feedstock Debate – Gas v Fuel, “Australia’s biomass resources should be reserved for liquid fuel instead of being used to decarbonise the gas network” led to great open ‘fiesty’ discussions and very thoughtful outcomes.

The Summit reached in excess of 26 million people through excellent media coverage across the country enabling the conversation to continue.

Open Letter To The Hon Chris Bowen MP - Minister for Climate Change & Energy

Dear Minister,

We the undersigned, are seeking the support of the Federal Government to facilitate the establishment of a local renewable diesel refining industry in Australia. Renewable diesel is not commercially available in Australia but is readily available overseas and plays a key role in decarbonising a range of sectors.

Renewable diesel is a critical transition fuel while other technologies, such as electrification and renewable hydrogen, gather pace. Access to domestically produced renewable diesel represents a significant and immediate decarbonisation opportunity across multiple sectors, including road transport, construction, maritime, mining, rail, agriculture and forestry.

These sectors represent 29% of the Australian economic output and they consumed 27.5 billion litres of diesel in 2019/20, yet are ‘hard to abate’ meaning alternative technologies to using diesel are not readily available. Liquid fuels, including diesel, contributed around 117 MtCO2e emissions in 2019/20, highlighting a significant proportion of the emissions attributed to diesel consumption.

Renewable diesel is an advanced biofuel made from animal fats, vegetable oils including used cooking oil, and agricultural waste. It is chemically identical to conventional diesel, can be used as a 100% ‘drop-in’ fuel without machinery needing any modifications, and use is widely supported by Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Renewable diesel offers an excellent, tested and readily available alternative to mineral diesel, with much as 75-95% reduction in life cycle emissions compared with mineral diesel. Additional benefits include improvements to air quality compared with mineral diesel by reducing pollutants.

With the right policy settings, renewable diesel provides a viable and cost-effective decarbonisation option for hard to abate sectors. Renewable diesel enables equipment and machinery to live out its working life while we wait for zero emission technology to replace or where other options ultimately do not materialise. These sectors are the bedrock of the local economy and decarbonising these industries is critical to achieving the Australian Government’s emissions reduction target of 43 per cent by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.

A domestic renewable diesel industry will provide significant regional employment in areas with abundant feedstocks. Additionally, it will diversify incomes and foster economic growth from domestic feedstocks and improve regional community resilience, as well as increasing Australia’s fuel security.

Minister, we are asking for strong policy signals such as a Low Carbon Liquid Fuel Policy, urgent investment in a domestic renewable diesel industry underpinned by a high integrity biological based feedstock industry and maximising current biodiesel opportunities in the interim.

The Australian Government needs to invest in the establishment and fast upscaling of a domestic renewable diesel industry. An integrated policy response inclusive of tax treatment, capital grants and incentives would be expected to reduce barriers inhibiting the development of an Australian renewable fuels industry.

The opportunity to the Australian economy is a renewable diesel industry that is built on domestic sustainable feedstocks, activates domestic refining and supports the decarbonisation of Australian industry sectors. There is also an opportunity for the Australian Government to maximise opportunities of the use of biodiesel by industry in the interim.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss our position with you in further detail as we strongly believe a productive and successful local renewable diesel market in Australia would have enormous benefits to both Australia’s economy and underpin the Australian Government’s actions to achieve its carbon emissions reduction target of 43 per cent and net zero emissions by 2050. We would welcome consideration for renewable diesel to be included in the upcoming Reconstruction Fund.

Smithfield Depot gets an addition to it's Maxi-Tanker fleet

We have some excited and happy operators at our Smithfield Depot in Sydney with the recent arrival of a new 19 meter DAF. The new addition to our fleet will support the ever increasing fuel demand of our Mini-Tanker fleet with the supply of fuel to our above ground tank at Smithfield. Fuelling up at the depot is a time saver for our operators and the business. Any reduction of time on the heavily congested Greater Sydney roads means that our Mini-Tankers can fuel up at the depot and quickly get back to customer sites without the delay of drawing fuel elsewhere, or for having to rely on fuel carters.

These beautiful big trucks, with our famous red and blue Maxi-Tanker brand on the barrels, have increased their visibility, particularly in Western Sydney, over the past 10 years. RFS has a great team working together across many disciplines to bring the best, technically advanced and safest trucks to refuel plant and equipment on site.

The Batmobile Heads West - RFS Supports The 2023 Variety Bash

At RFS we are proud to champion our local communities and offer support to those in need. One such initiative that we have supported for approximately 14 years is The Variety Children’s Charity BASH.

If you’ve not heard about the BASH it’s a bunch of crazy people who annually go on a rigorous drive, in cars 30 years and older, on a preselected outback drive, visiting regional and outback schools, hospitals and townships. All to raise dollars for children in need. This year they will be driving over 5,500km through some very isolated country.

Thanks to the tireless work of our team, last year our BATMOBILE won the highest accolade voted by all participants of ‘The Spirit of the BASH’ for which we are very proud.

This year’s BASH begins at Mt Panorama, Bathurst, famous for the Bathurst 1000 annual race weekend NW of Sydney. The finish is the Batavia Coast in the township of Geraldton WA which is a long 5,500 km through some of Australia’s beautiful and desolate areas.

Our seasoned team of Mathew Parsons (Batman), David Simmons (Robin) and John O’Loughlin (The Joker) are in the process of getting the iconic BATMOB Car 33 mechanically sound and ready for another exciting adventure.

The team will be raising much needed funds, specifically for those in outlying areas, where everyday services such as access to medical help, equipment, educational support and supplies, are often difficult to obtain. These problematic issues are made very visible to the hundreds of Bashers who have the privilege of visiting the remote towns across their journey to Geraldton. Meeting and talking with parents and listening to the children’s stories that touch our hearts, brings the reality of living in remote and outlying regions to everyone on the Bash journey.

Over the 11 day journey, the team will be engaged daily with townships officials, parents, and surrounding communities. Putting smiles on the faces of the often shy kids when they cheered the arrival of the Batmobile and it’s very strange occupants.

Our team displayed a passion for what the Bash stands for and had empathy in support of those kids and parents who are in need of some additional help or just a great big HUG.

South Australia Continues Expanding

RFS continues expanding rapidly across South Australia, and to support this growth, much needed trucks, tanks, equipment and manpower are required to support the ongoing demand - specifically in our regional Depots of Keith, Murray Bridge, and Berri.

The Keith Depot, thanks to a fantastic team whose collective smart thinking is reshaping the Tatiara and Upper South East Region, a new DAF CF530 Prime Mover & New Tieman Bogie Swift Fuel Shifter will be delivered in the next few weeks.

Our Depot in Murray Bridge is also a success story, growing from a single tank, truck, and an operator to three times in manpower, tanks and trucks. With a delivery scheduled in July of a new DAF CF530 Prime Mover & New Tieman Bogie Swift Fuel Shifter, the team at the Depot are excited to continue to provide scheduled delivery to every customer. And there’s more good news as an additional BDouble is heading to Murry Bridge in August.

Additional equipment is also on the way to the Maxi-Tanker Depot in Berri, with a new DAF CF530 Prime Mover and New Tieman Bogie Swift Fuel Shifter, plus a Triaxle Dolly, soon to be added to the Berri fleet. The dolly will be used to provide the capability to run a AB Double road train out of the Berri Depot.

The teams in these three depots are to be congratulated, as the Maxi-Tanker fleet of trucks and equipment has increased dramatically over a 12 month period, shaping and supporting each region with the ability to respond to customer’s refuelling requirements.

History on this day: RFS biodiesel fuels record breaking voyage

After completing her epic voyage, on May 27th, 2022, Lisa Blair, sailor, adventurer, and climate change activist claimed the record for the fastest person to sail solo and unassisted around Antarctica. Lisa’s yacht, Climate Action Now, was 100% eco-powered and had a combination of wind generators, solar panels, hydro generators, and 1600 litres of B100 biodiesel for her yacht’s generator supplied by Refuelling Solutions.

Her goal resonated strongly with our team at Refuelling Solutions, which is why we knew it was important to assist this historic voyage and become a part of Lisa’s story, raising awareness of the damage of pollutants and plastics in our oceans.

Powering the vessel that sailed into the history books

Our B100 biodiesel option played a small, but crucial role, in facilitating this ambitious expedition by providing an environmentally friendly generator fuel option.

We first became connected with Lisa Blair when she was assessing her options to source Australian B100 Biofuel for het yacht’s generator, which she needed as one of the many components that would support her attempt to be the first and fastest woman to sail single-handedly from Albany WA, around the Antarctic continent, and back.

To ensure her generator was eco-powered, she needed a reliable fuel source – and Refuelling Solutions was able to provide the renewable, biodegradable fuel option she was looking for.

Our steady QLD growth extends to the Northern Rivers of NSW

Prior to 2018, the coastal towns of the NSW Northern Rivers were an area the RFS depot at Underwood in Queensland serviced with just one Mini-Tanker and an operator. The three-hour round trip made several times a week in support of local customers who were reliant on regular fuel supply, was a challenge that Refuelling Solutions needed to meet. Servicing these customers meant crossing the QLD/NSW border from our depot, based at Underwood, however, the vision of potential growth was enough ‘fuel’ to commit a truck and the manpower required.

In 2018, a large-scale customer approached Brad Minahan, State Manager, requesting that we extend ourselves to support a Federal Government contract for an upgrade to a 35km stretch of new highway from Woolgoolga to Ballina. Our customer won the project and we quickly got into action by hiring a local Operator/Driver and a 2nd Mini-Tanker to support the project out of Ballina. As the project ramped up, so did we by implementing both a day and night shift. To support the demand and bring fuel security to the project, RFS decided to install a 100KL above-ground tank on our customer’s leased quarry for the duration of the contract. During this period, a Maxi-Tanker would supply bulk fuel to the tank several times a week. The decision to expand our footprint into the NSW Northern Rivers area exceeded expectations, as the fleet had increased to five operators/drivers and 5 Mini-Tankers to support the upgrade process.

Several years later and on completion of the 35kms of the new highway, we retained two of the operators/drivers and employed a third local operator.

Through negotiations between Brian O’Sullivan, Business Development Executive from our Underwood office, and Bruce Beesley, owner of GO GROW, the above-ground 100KL tank was relocated to GO GROW’s site in Ballina to service their loaders, graders, and equipment. A solid business relationship has developed over the last three years and the positive growth for both companies for the supply of on-site refuelling in the Northern Rivers district has launched a new era of opportunities benefiting the community. The synergy between Refuelling Solutions and GO GROW is bound by how the two companies were built on a dream to succeed by the entrepreneurial enterprise of owners Tony Hartin, Managing Director, Refuelling Solutions and Bruce Beesley, Owner GO GROW where nurserymen and home growers source professional potting mix specialising in growing media and landscape supplies. GO GROW was the first accredited growing media supplier in NSW under the NIASA Best Practice Guidelines and is also a certified organic input manufacturer of potting mix and soils .

The vision for this area has been fully supported by our team, from management, sales, administration, scheduling of the tankers, and our operators/drivers.
