Transitioning to a lower-carbon future requires solutions that are both environmentally impactful and operationally practical. Too often those two things pull against each other. The cleanest option on paper turns out to be the one that slows a site down, or asks a business to replace equipment that still has years of working life in it. Through this collaboration, we are supplying HVO100 , a premium renewable diesel capable of reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 90%.
Our strategic rollout of HVO100 demonstrates how supply chain innovation can drive immediate environmental benefits without disrupting critical operations. There are three guiding principles that make that possible.
Seamless operational continuity
As noted by Adam Pyne, National Strategic Account Manager at Coates, HVO100 acts as a direct, drop-in alternative for existing diesel-powered equipment. It requires zero engine modifications, ensuring fleets keep moving with confidence.
For a hire fleet operating at Coates' scale, a fuel that demanded engine changes, new componentry or a different class of machine would take years to work through the business, and would strand assets in the meantime. A drop-in fuel avoids all of it. The same machines, the same service intervals, the same operators. What changes is the carbon intensity of what goes in the tank.
It also means the transition can move at the pace a project needs rather than the pace a fleet replacement cycle allows. A site can begin running on renewable diesel as soon as the fuel arrives, not once the next round of capital expenditure clears.
Strategic ESG alignment

For a contractor of Ventia's size, fuel is one of the largest and most visible sources of Scope 1 emissions, and it is spread across hundreds of sites, machines and daily decisions. That makes it difficult to address through policy alone. It has to be solved in the supply chain, by the businesses actually putting fuel into equipment.
Sustainability commitments made at a corporate level only become real when the people delivering fuel to site can support them, consistently, across every location a contractor operates in.
Reliable, on-site execution
Lower-emission fuel is central to how our Mini-Tankers operate. By delivering directly to the site, we ensure our partners can reduce their carbon footprint efficiently and reliably.
We pioneered on-site refuelling in Australia in 1987, and the model has always been built around removing the trip to the depot. Fuel goes directly into the equipment, where it is working, at a time that suits the program. Applying that same delivery network to renewable diesel means a lower-carbon fuel arrives with no change to how a site runs, and no additional infrastructure to install or maintain.
A renewable fuel that is only available intermittently is not a fuel a contractor can build a program around. Delivering HVO100 through an established national network is what turns it from a trial into an operating standard.
